Owner's Comments

"Brent Goose" was built as a bilge keel Bermudan Cutter by Sea King in 1971 from Iroko on Oak with a lead ballast keel of about 3/4 tons,  Iroko clinker planking 5/8" thick and solid Iroko planked decks Trakmark covered. She is 24'6" LOA, 9'6" beam, and 2' draft - enormously roomy for her length and with great character from her varnished deck beams and deckhead (Iroko). My intention had been to create a small MFV style boat from her.

After the pre-purchase survey a new stem was fitted professionally and the stern post area where it had shrunk back was epoxy filled at the same time and is now very sound. Some keel bolts were also renewed.

Restoration work started with removing all interior joinery and completely stripping the hull back to bare wood inside and out and applying a new paint system. New joinery in the saloon using Brown Oak and Douglas Fir is now almost complete giving two good size settee berths with sideboards and trotter boxes, and a good galley area - the cabin sole is solid Douglas Fir planking.

The cockpit has new floor and engine bearers fitted, but the forepeak has not been started (though the hull sides and bilge have been fully primed ready for topcoats).

The original Stuart Turner engine was replaced with a used Beta 20hp BD722 diesel and new shaft and propellor, but it will need testing again as it has not been run for a while. New engine harness and control wiring is supplied but not fitted,as is the 65 litre fuel tank.

In short, all the hard graft has been completed and what remains is the enjoyable creative work of fitting her out to suit the owners requirements.
